Obituary for Thelma L. Nuschke (Brumley)

Thelma L. Nuschke, wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, passed away Friday evening, May 24, 2018 in the Chambersburg Hospital. Born March 8, 1928 in Bogata, Texas, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Lora Conine Brumley. Her beloved husband of 67 years, Paul L. Nuschke, preceded her in death on April 21, 2014.

As an active and former Navy wife for 67 years of her life, Mrs. Nuschke traveled extensively throughout the U.S, while raising and taking care of three children and volunteering in numerous capacities as a Navy wife. From 1964-1967 she became a successful real estate agent in McLean, VA, but then retired to accompany her husband to Long Beach, CA for his last assignment in the Navy. When fully retired, the couple eventually moved to Brevard N.C. where Mrs. Nuschke ran the Women’s Auxilary for the Transylvania Regional Hospital for several years, raising thousands of dollars, and served as President of the Brevard Country Club and Golf Course. An accomplished homemaker, her hobbies included golf, birdwatching, working with stained glass, playing bridge, and painting. Her reputation for her home-baked pies preceded her whereever she went.

Surviving Mrs. Nuschke are two of her three children, Paula N. Alford of Reston, VA, and David P. Nuschke (Melissa) of Enola, PA. His third child, Walter L. Nuschke of Waynesboro, PA predeceased her December 20, 2013 following a heroic battle against cancer. She also leaves behind eight grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; a brother, Kenneth Brumley; and a sister, Joy Hesch.

At her request services will be private. Inurnment will be in the Columbarium at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD.
