Obituary for William C. Schriver Sr.
William C. Schriver, Sr., 86, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away Friday morning, March 12, 2021 at Paramount Senior Living in Fayetteville. Born May 3, 1934 in Dubois, PA, he was a son of the late Robert Leslie and Madeline V. Cramer Schriver. Bill was a 1953 graduate of the former Chambersburg High School where he was a standout basketball player. He retired in 1974 from the US Army after 20 years of service as an Intelligence Officer where he was trained to speak five languages including Arabic. Following his retirement from the military he graduated in 1975 from the Pennsylvania State Police Academy in Hershey, PA and served as a State Trooper until his retirement in 1996. He attended Christian Life Fellowship Assembly of God; was a life member of Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW; Burt J. Asper Post 46 American Legion; Hume, McNeil, Byers AmVets Post 224; and the Marine Corps League, all in Chambersburg. He was also a 50 year member of Boylston Lodge 5876 AF&AM in West Boylston, MA; a member of the Deputy Sheriff’s Association of Pennsylvania; Tall Cedars of Lebanon Valley Forest #145; and the NRA. Bill enjoyed golfing, fishing, bowling, horseshoes, riding motorcycles, and getting together with his poker buddies every month.
He is survived by his wife, Saundra “Sandy” Dehart Schriver, whom he married September 20, 2008; son, William C. Schriver, Jr. and wife Tricia of Chambersburg, PA; his brother Leslie “Tike” Schriver and wife Cyndi of Scotland, PA; and his sister Virginia Thorpe and husband William of Mossy Rock, WA. He is also survived by three step-children, Theresa Edwards and husband Rickey of Fayetteville; Julie Ann Crowell of Chambersburg, and Warren L. Christman of Chambersburg; nine step-grandchildren; ten step great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Audrey on July 17, 2000; his son, Rodney A. Schriver; and his brother, Richard Schriver.
A memorial service to celebrate Bill’s life will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, April 3, 2021 at Christian Life Fellowship, 1400 Warm Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Pastor Joe Pickens will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Military honors will be conducted by members of the Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW Honor Guard immediately following the service.
