Obituary for Veronica M. "Ronnie" Starliper Guthrie (McCall)

Veronica M. “Ronnie” Starliper Guthrie, age 98, formerly of Greencastle, passed away peacefully Wednesday morning, October 7, 2020 at ManorCare Health Services. Born November 23, 1921 in Allentown, she was a daughter of the late Joseph John McCall and Mary Ellen Maurer McCall Schetzel. A homemaker most of her life, she along with her late husband John owned and operated the former North End Market in Mercersburg. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Mercersburg; a former member of the Clarence Armstrong VFW Post 6241 Ladies Auxiliary; and the National AARP. Ronnie enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be remembered for her sense of humor and her infectious laugh. Her first husband, John D. Starliper, Sr., preceded her in death on September 10, 1983 and her second husband, Grant M. Guthrie, preceded her in death on December 20, 1996.

She is survived by her son, William R. “Randy” Starliper and wife Alice; daughter-in-law Linda S. Starliper; four grandchildren, Chad Starliper and wife Amy, Erika Zeis and husband Aaron, Derek Starliper and wife Andrea, and Ashley Jones and husband Darrin; seven great-granddaughters, Kayla, MaKenna, Kacie, Kylie (husband Josh), Madison, Kenley, and Kennedy; her great-grandson, Logan; her great-great grandson Scott; and her sister, Rosemary Jones. In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by a son, John “Danny” Starliper, Jr. on March 28, 2007; her step-father, Theodore McCall; and six brothers, James McCall, Donald Schetzel, William Schetzel, John Schetzel, Francis Schetzel, and Robert Schetzel.

A graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM Monday, October 12, 2020 at Fairview Cemetery, Mercersburg, PA. Rev. Murray Stevens will officiate.
