Obituary for Stanley E. Purnell
Stanley E. Purnell, 85, of Chambersburg, passed away on Saturday, February 5, 2022 at the Chambersburg Hospital. Born November 18, 1936 in McConnellsburg, PA, he was the son of the late Herman R. and Delilah Souders Purnell. His beloved wife, of 55 years, Florence E. Christman Purnell, preceded him in death on July 27, 2013.
Stanley was employed as a carpenter for over 30 years with Callas Contractors Inc. in Hagerstown, MD until his retirement. He then worked part-time with Guilford Township Supervisors. He was a member of Ebenezer United Brethren Church in Greencastle and a life member of the New Franklin Volunteer Fire Company. An avid outdoorsman, Stanley enjoyed hunting and riding four wheelers. He also enjoyed woodworking and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He is survived by his son, Mark A. Purnell (wife Sharon) of Chambersburg; two grandsons, Matthew Purnell (Jamie Kelley) and Michael Purnell (Krystle Etter), both of Chambersburg; and six great grandchildren. In addition to his wife and parents, Stanley was preceded in death by five siblings, Helen Whitmore, Bud Purnell, Raymond Purnell, Herman Purnell, Jr., and Gerald Purnell.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, February 10, 2022 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Rev. Ronald Cook will officiate. Interment will follow the service in Parklawns Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM Wednesday evening and one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the funeral home.
