Obituary for Robert C. Sleighter Sr.
Robert C. Sleighter, Sr., 87, of Upper Strasburg, PA passed away Tuesday, February 22, 2022 in Brookview Menno Haven, Chambersburg, PA. Born December 7, 1934 in Chambersburg, PA he was the son of the late Clarence and Mary (Nye) Sleighter.
He was a graduate of Chambersburg Senior High School with the Class of 1952. Bob was employed as a machinist for Frick Company, Waynesboro, PA mainly in quality control. He retired in 2000 after many years with the company. Bob was a member of the Chambersburg Rod and Gun Club where he served as secretary and treasurer for many years; the Path Valley Lions Club; the George Washington Masonic Lodge #143; and a number of different local social clubs. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and was an avid baseball fan.
He is survived by two children, Brenda S. Fowler and husband John of Arnold, MD, and Robert C. Sleighter, Jr. and wife Karen of Fayetteville; four grandchildren, Alicia Bender of Neptune Beach, FL, Ryan Fowler of Glen Burnie, MD and wife Marsha, Dr. Rachel Sleighter and husband Sean Little of Norfolk, VA, and Ashley VanRy and husband Alex of Frederick, MD; four great-grandchildren, Leighton and Cooper Little and Mila and Lily VanRy; and a sister, Doris Lesher of Chambersburg, PA. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy M. (Etter) Sleighter in 2006 and a daughter, Lisa Sleighter in 1993.
A graveside service will be held, 1:00 PM, Friday March 4, 2022 in Parklawns Memorial Gardens, 3218 Philadelphia Ave., Chambersburg, PA 17201 with Pastor John Shadle officiating. Arrangements are by the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, Chambersburg, PA.
