Obituary for Rhoda L. Shannon (Meyers)
Rhoda L. Shannon, 86, of Chambersburg, passed away on August 24, 2022 at the Chambersburg Hospital. Born April 5, 1936 in Upton, PA, she was a daughter of the late Jacob and Elizabeth Wenger Meyers. Her beloved husband, Richard E. Shannon, preceded her in death on November 21, 2019.
Rhoda spent her early life making a home for her family. She was later employed as a machine cutter at Tracy Fashions and at the pastry counter at the Butcher Shoppe. She was a member of Mission Hill Church (formerly Chambersburg Brethren In Christ) where she served on the kitchen committee, in the nursery and as a church deacon. Rhoda loved crocheting, sewing, and entertaining family and friends. Her greatest joy was being with her family.
She is survived by four children, Rose Grissinger of St. Thomas, Ricky Shannon (wife Patricia) of Williamsburg, VA, Ronald Shannon (wife Jaylene) of Dillsburg, and Ruth Ann Frey (husband Dean) of Chambersburg; six grandchildren, Angelina Waris (husband Tariq), Joshua Shannon (wife Christina), Malinda Heisey (husband Nathaniel), and Austin, Carley, and Dylan Shannon; seven great grandchildren; sister, Martha Rotz (husband Roy); and sister-in-law, Norma Jean Meyers. In addition to her parents and husband, Rhoda is preceded in death by two siblings, Chester Meyers and Elva Conley; and son-in-law, Gary Grissinger.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, August 31, 2022 at Mission Hill Church, 465 Center Street, Chambersburg, PA 17201. Rev. Joel Gillman will officiate. Interment will follow the service in Parklawns Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM on Tuesday, August 30, 2022 at the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the church.
