Obituary for Phyllis Mary Shindle

Phyllis Mary Shindle, 92, claimed her baptismal promise on Sunday, November 20, 2022. A lifelong resident of Franklin County, PA, Phyllis grew up and lived primarily in Waynesboro. She moved to Providence Place, Chambersburg for the final years of her life.
Phyllis was born on November 7, 1930 in Waynesboro, PA to Motte Franklin and Katherine Brumbaugh Shindle. She graduated from the Waynesboro High School in 1948. While she held several positions following high school, she spent most of her working years as a seamstress at Stanley Manufacturing, Chambersburg, PA.
Phyllis was a fun-loving woman with diverse interests over her lifetime. She was a loving and devoted daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. She embraced the Lutheran faith all her life, serving in numerous volunteer roles at Evangelical Lutheran Church such as Sunday School teacher, Sewing Belles member, Friendly Visitor, etc. In addition to this work for her church, during her retirement she volunteered for both the Waynesboro Hospital Auxiliary and a local new garments assistance program. For most of her adult years, Phyllis was an active member of the Order of the Eastern Star, first in the Mount Vernon Chapter, later in the Martha Custis Chapter. As such, she served the organization in many roles, including Worthy Matron. Phyllis also loved to travel, and she took annual road trips with her sister June. When at home, Phyllis was happy outside gardening or doing yard work and inside working at various crafts or crocheting.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, as well as by her brother Robert Franklin Shindle, sister in-law Grace Schlossnagel Shindle, and sister Ella June Shindle.
She is survived by her niece Katherine Shindle Barnard and nephew-in-law Brooks Woodward Barnard, of Flower Mound, TX, and by her grandnephew Benjamin Shindle Barnard of Lewisville, TX.
A Celebration of Life Worship will honor Phyllis at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, December 6, 2022 at Evangelical Lutheran Church, 43 S. Church Street, Waynesboro, PA, 17268. Pastor/s from that church will preside. An interment service will be held immediately following the Celebration of Life at Green Hill Cemetery, 953 S. Potomac Street, Waynesboro, PA, 17225.
