Obituary for Nancy Graver
Nancy Lou Graver returned to her heavenly home on May 4, 2021 in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, at the age of 82. The fourth of seven children, Nancy was born on April 16, 1939 in Waynesboro, Pennsylvania, to Floyd Vernon Rock and Anna Katherine Berger Rock.
Nancy grew up in Quincy, Fairview, New Franklin, and Chambersburg. She graduated from Chambersburg Area High School and then moved to Provo, Utah where she attended two semesters at the Brigham Young Academy as a Physical Education Major. Short on money, she returned home to Chambersburg where she worked at the Stanley Company. It was there that she met her first husband, Charles “Skip” Spidel. They were married on February 20, 1960 and had four daughters together. Following their divorce, Nancy worked at the Letterkenny Army Depot while living in Fayetteville. Upon her marriage to Harry Graver on May 16, 1969, she moved first to Harrisburg, and then to Spring Grove. Together, they had seven more children. Nancy continued to live in Spring Grove following her second divorce. She later returned to Chambersburg where she lived out the rest of her days.
Nancy enjoyed sports, gymnastics, singing, piano, crocheting, knitting, and spending time with her family. She also enjoyed gardening, canning, sewing, and other household activities. She was an active participant in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she served in many capacities. She ministered to many and loved all. Nancy believed in honest, hard work and had a passion for learning and knowledge. She loved the gospel of Jesus Christ and the word of God. She was an avid reader and student of the gospel. Her love and passion for music and the gospel, in particular, were passed on to her children and grandchildren. Nancy enjoyed a special bond with her sisters, her “best friends,” as she termed them. However, her greatest joy in life was being a mother, and she took all of the children that Heavenly Father had to give her. She loved her family fiercely and prayed over each one by name on a daily basis. She thoroughly enjoyed her family, her children, her step-children, and others who came through her home.
Nancy is survived by nine children, Gina L. (Lori Northcutt) Spidel of California; LuAnn E. (Nilsen) Septon of Utah; Joseph G. (Tara) Graver of Pennsylvania; Benjamin A. (Mindee) Graver of Washington; Phillip A. (Jamie) Graver of Utah; Peter W. Graver of Utah; Elizabeth A. Graver of Utah; and Mary K. (Travis) Whiting of Texas; James A. (Adriane) Graver of Pennsylvania; as well as, step-daughters, Sabrina L. (Fred) Walters of Pennsylvania; Timna R. (Jim) Fisher of Pennsylvania; and Kanah (Mark) Kreider of Pennsylvania. She is also survived by sisters, Norma (Walter) Ricker of Pennsylvania; Judith A. Peiffer of Pennsylvania; Donna J. (Barry) Brown of Pennsylvania; and brother, Lemarr F. (Cheryl) Rock of Indiana; 35 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Nancy was preceded in death by husbands, Charles F. Spidel and Harry B. Graver, Jr.; twin daughters, Carla S. and Carol S. Spidel; step-son, David B. (Fran) Graver; and sisters, Myrna L. Fields; and Brenda E. Rock.
Funeral services will be held on May 11, 2021, at 10 am in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 50 Ragged Edge Rd., Chambersburg, with a viewing scheduled one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in the Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro, Pennsylvania.
