Obituary for Louis A. Poppenwimer

Louis A. Poppenwimer, 96, of Chambersburg, PA passed away Sunday, October 23, 2022 in his home. Born December 30, 1925 in Altoona, PA he was the son of the late George and Barbara (Koesbauer) Poppenwimer.

After graduating high school Louis served in the United States Navy during World War II and Korea. Following his honorable discharge he went to work at Letterkenny Army Depot, Chambersburg in the quality electronics assurance area. He retired in 1984. Louis enjoyed golfing, gardening and taking care of his yard, and traveling with his wife. He was a “snowbird” for the past 30 years spending six months out of the year in Florida. Louis was a member of the Moose Lodge as well as a member of the American Legion Post 46, Chambersburg.

He is survived by four children, Linda Poppenwimer (Anne Burhans) of Naples, FL, Larry Poppenwimer (Michael Hunnel) of Red Lion, PA, Mark Poppenwimer (Connie) of Chambersburg, PA, and Lisa Righter (Keith) of York, PA; six grandchildren, Grant Poppenwimer, Kyle Poppenwimer, Corey Righter, Emily Brown, Tyler Poppenwimer, and Joshua Righter; six great-grandchildren, Madelyn, Gwen, Lincoln, Gavin, Zoe and Eva. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife, H. Joann (Whitfield) Poppenwimer who passed away January 9, 2016; two brothers; and three sisters.

Services will be held 11:00 AM, Monday, October 31, 2022 in the Chapel of the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA 17202 with Mr. Bill Shilling officiating. Burial will follow at Parklawns Memorial Gardens; where members of the Charles Nitterhouse, Post 1599 VFW will conduct military honors. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service Monday morning in the funeral home.
