Obituary for Lois M. Billings

Lois “Lu” Marie (Rock) Billings, 77, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away April 7, 2023. She was born on March 13, 1946 in Chambersburg, PA, to Melvin and Mabel (Bowers) Rock.

Lois graduated from Chambersburg Area High School in 1964, and went on to work in business administration roles for a number of companies around central Pennsylvania, ultimately retiring from managing food services at Chambersburg Hospital. Lois used her beautiful soprano singing voice throughout her life in church choirs and as a regular soloist. Prior to her residence at Brookview Menno Haven Retirement Community, she most recently attended Mount Pleasant United Brethren Church, where she sang with the adult choir and was a member of the Koinonia Sunday School class. She also volunteered with Camp Joy-El in the Bible Adventure program with kids. She enjoyed playing golf, riding her yellow motorcycle, and eating ice cream. Her beloved boxer dogs brought her immense joy; for decades, she trained them for competition. Even in retirement, Lu always had at least one boxer companion in her home.

She was predeceased by her parents and also by her best friend, Barbara Taylor, who was like a sister to her, and is survived by many loved ones who will remember Lu for being slow to speak, quick to laugh, and loyal in friendship.

A graveside service and interment will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, April 14, 2023 at Lincoln Cemetery, 948 Lincoln Highway, Chambersburg, PA with Pastor Jim Bolich officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday evening, April 13, 2023 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM in the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA.
