Obituary for Linda J. Dalton (Johnson)

Linda J. Dalton, 77, of Chambersburg, passed away on Wednesday, March 30, 2022 at the Chambersburg Hospital after a two year battle with cancer. Born December 5, 1944 in New Castle, PA, she was the daughter of the late Ralph J. and Lois E. Hinkson Johnson. Her beloved husband, Richard L. “Dick” Dalton, whom she married on August 7, 1964, preceded her in death on Wednesday, April 29, 2009.

Linda was a 1963 graduate of New Castle High School. She dedicated most of her adult life to making a home for her family. A faithful servant of the Lord, Linda was a member of Central Presbyterian Church in Chambersburg for over 50 years. She was one of the original teachers of what is now Playschool Central and taught Sunday school for over 30 years. She was known to the community as “Mama Linda” and was a mother/grandmother figure to many. She loved walking, gardening, visiting with friends and family, baking, cooking and spoiling her grandchildren. She also enjoyed spending time at the municipal pool in Chambersburg.

Linda is survived by three children, Richard L. “Rick” Dalton II and wife Janice, Belinda “Buffy” Super and husband Anthony, and Paul “Tim” Lynn Dalton and wife Jennifer, all of Chambersburg; five grandchildren, Nate Dalton, Abbie Dalton, Julia Super, Rachel Dalton and Jakob Dalton; and numerous nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. Aside from her parents and husband, Linda was preceded in death by six siblings, Betty Louise Johnson, Jim Johnson, Joanne McEwen, Jack Johnson, Don Johnson and Bob Johnson.

The family will receive friends from 12:30 – 2:00 PM on Saturday, April 9, 2022 at Central Presbyterian Church, 40 Lincoln Way West, Chambersburg, PA. A memorial service, conducted by Rev. Scott Bowerman will begin at 2:00 PM. Private interment will be at Lincoln Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Foundation for Women’s Cancer at www.foundationforwomenscancer.org. Arrangements are entrusted to Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Chambersburg, PA.
