Obituary for Leonard E. Speers

Leonard E. Speers, 72, of Fayetteville, PA, unexpectantly went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 28, 2020 while in Florida with his family. Leonard was born December 5, 1947 and grew up in Fairport, NY; he was the son of the late Harold and Irene (De Groot) Speers. He was a 1966 graduate of Fairport High School and went on to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Trine University. During his prominent engineering career, he obtained 7 patents and worked at J.I. Case in Terre Haute, IN and Wausau, WI, Ingersoll-Rand in Shippensburg, PA, Blaw-Knox in Mattoon, IL and ended his career at Volvo Construction Equipment in Shippensburg, PA where he retired in 2015. He met his beloved wife, Kathy J. (Duncan) Speers, in Terre Haute, IN where they married on March 26, 1983 and went on to have three children. Leonard, above all else, was a devoted Christian and loved the Lord Jesus Christ as was evident in the way he eagerly shared his faith and desired for others to know Jesus as their Savior. He was an active member of Chambersburg Bible Church and served on the church board for many years. His favorite hobbies were gardening, playing pickleball, fishing, golfing, hunting, volunteering with various ministries, and playing with his grandkids.

He is survived by his wife, Kathy J. (Duncan) Speers; his son, Christopher Speers of Lafayette, IN; two daughters, Tiffanie Robinson and husband Matthew of Martinsburg, WV and Heather Meyers and husband Corey of Boston, MA; and four grandchildren, Noah, Maggie, and Titus Robinson, and Asher Meyers. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his only sister, Marilyn Tucker.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M., Monday, December 7, 2020 in Chambersburg Bible Church, 810 Orchard Drive, Chambersburg, PA 17201 with Pastor Matthew Robinson and Pastor Garry Yoder officiating. Interment will follow at Lincoln Cemetery, Chambersburg. Visitation hours will be held from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Sunday, December 6, 2020, in the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA and again one hour prior to the service Monday morning in the church.
