Obituary for Keith Mostofi

Keith Mostofi, 78, of Chambersburg, PA passed away Sunday, June 26, 2022 surrounded by his family in the Chambersburg Hospital. Born June 1, 1944 in Boston, MA he was the son of the late Fathollah Keshvar and Dorothy Ida (Krock) Mostofi.

Keith grew up in suburban Washington, DC, in Chevy Chase, MD. His career academia began at the Chevy Chase Elementary School, an alma mater he shares with his two grandchildren who now live in the very house he grew up in. He completed his middle and high school years at Sidwell Friends School, in Washington, DC. He did his undergraduate work at Hamilton College in Clinton, NY during which time he met his wife of over 54 years. He then did postgraduate work at the American University in Washington, DC. He then moved (with his new bride) to Portsmouth, VA to be a professor at Tidewater College. After two years at Tidewater, he moved back to the classroom to pursue his love of military history at the University of Virginia. While at UVA he was awarded the Governors Fellowship to study military fortress systems at the University of Munich, a prelude to a thirty year career as a civilian military supply systems analyst for the US Army.

Keith started his career with the US Army at supply management training at Red River Army Base, near Texarkana, TX, graduating first in his class. A perk of this honor was being able to select his first assignment, he chose Letterkenny Army Depot, in Chambersburg, PA, a place he and his wife Chris would spend the next 44 years of their lives. He held several positions within DESCOM at Letterkenny, earning multiple awards for meritorious service. In the fall of 1989 he returned to Europe, working with US Army Europe first in Germany and then in Luxemburg. In 1997 he moved to the Pentagon working for the Department of the Army, G-4 (Logistics) until his retirement in 2010.

In his retirement he enjoyed being “Baba” to his two grandchildren, working with model trains, extensive ancestry research, and finally being able to read all the books he could. His grandchildren would often ask their parents to “call Baba, because he will know the answer” to any question. He was a member of the Cumberland Valley Railroaders and enjoyed educating both children and adults about trains through the CVRR’s miniature train at Norlo Park.

Keith is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mary Christine “Chris” (Munger) Mostofi; a son, David Keshvar Mostofi and his wife Tabitha of Chevy Chase, MD and two grandchildren, Addison Bailey Mostofi and Alec Keshvar Mostofi.
