Obituary for Julia M. Hockenberry (Seibert)

Julia M. (Seibert) Hockenberry, 88, of Providence Place, Chambersburg and formerly of Fayetteville, PA passed away Saturday, March 25, 2023 in the Chambersburg Hospital. Born July 17, 1934 in Fannett Township, PA she was the daughter of the late Edward W. and Nellie V. (Fleagle) Seibert.

Julia was a talented hairdresser and owner of her own beauty shop, Julia’s Magic Fingers Beauty Salon in Fayetteville. She was a member of Spring Run United Methodist Church and Grand Point Church. Julia loved playing, singing, and listening to gospel, blue grass, and country music. She sang with the Fun Bunch Church Choir and with Chambersburg Community Chorus for a number of years. Julia also enjoyed playing the electric bass guitar, arranging flowers, and crocheting.

She is survived by three daughters, Judy Orth and her husband Larry of Chambersburg, Janet Gardner and her husband Paul of Chambersburg, and Betty Herr and her husband Barry of Newville, PA; six grandchildren, Matthew Orth, Benjamin Orth (Rynn), Natalie Anderson (Eric), Jennifer Spencer (Spring), Ashley Wenger (Jordan), and Erin Herr; 16 great-grandchildren, Micah, Chloe, Mia, Bryce, Madison, Griffin, Trajan, Addison, Ava, Ian, Taryn, Lucy, Brayden, Ember, Piper, and Teagan; two siblings, Donald Seibert of Fannettsburg, PA and Charlotte Iser of Shippensburg, PA; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard D. Hockenberry who passed away in 1996 and three siblings, Edward “Sonny” Seibert, Janet McAllen, and Richard “Dick” Seibert.

Services will be held 10:00 AM, Wednesday, March 29, 2023 in the Chapel of the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA 17202 with Pastor John Semple officiating. Burial will follow in Upper Path Valley Cemetery, Spring Run, PA.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Tuesday evening as well as one hour prior to the service Wednesday morning in the funeral home.
