Obituary for John Robert "Bob" Spangler

John R. “Bob” Spangler, 91, of Chambersburg, passed away on Wednesday, January 19, 2022 at the Chambersburg Hospital. Born May 29, 1930 in New Franklin, he was the son of William J. and Ina Fortney Spangler.

A US Navy veteran, Bob served honorably during the Korean War. He was employed as a truck driver most of his life, first for Dairy Maid Products and later with Horn’s Motor Express until his retirement after over 30 years of service. Bob was a faithful man of God spending his life serving the Lord in many ways. He was active in organizing and initiating construction of a parsonage, serving as a bus captain, junior church leader teaching Sunday School, teaching Wednesday night church classes, serving as a deacon, and visiting shut-ins. In 1986 Bob received a certificate from Liberty Home Bible Institute for their General Bible Study Course. He loved golfing with his friends and most recently his grandsons. Bob also enjoyed working with his hands and did anything from small items to remodeling. He even built the home he lived in for the past 60 years.

He and his wife, Lorraine Martin Spangler, were married July 3, 1950, in Winchester, Virginia.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Trudy (Mrs. David) Kirby of Chambersburg, PA; two grandsons, Philip Krum (husband of Carrie) of Shippensburg, PA and Tucker Spangler; two granddaughters, Angela (Mrs. Lee) Myers and Pamela (Mrs. Melvin) Lohman; two great granddaughters and three great grandsons, all of Chambersburg, PA; son-in-law, Ronald Krum of Chambersburg, PA; and his sister, Corinne Reasner, (wife of Charles) of Arlington, Texas;. Aside from his parents, Bob was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Krum.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, January 25, 2022 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Rev. Dr. Dino Pedrone will officiate. Interment will follow the service in St. Thomas Cemetery where military honors will be provided by the VFW Post 1599 Honor Guard.
