Obituary for Joanne L. Bowman (Bitner)
Joanne L. Bowman, 89, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away on Friday, February 18, 2022 at the Chambersburg Hospital. Born June 23, 1932 in Chambersburg, she was a daughter of the late Howard and Elizabeth Carmack Bitner. Her beloved husband of 59 years, Kenneth A. Bowman, preceded her in death on December 28, 2016.
Joanne was employed as a teacher with CASD. She taught at Andrew Buchanan Elementary School and later at Chambersburg Area Middle School until her retirement. Joanne was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Chambersburg. She was also a member of the Alpha Delta Kappa teacher’s sorority. She enjoyed reading and shopping.
She is survived by two sons, Jaimie Bowman of Tunkhannock, PA, and Stevi Bowman of Fairfield, PA; two grandsons, Kevin and Kristopher Bowman of Tunkhannock, PA; and four siblings, Jerry Bitner, Betsy Bitner Marcavitch, Phyllis Bitner Brehm and Suzie Bitner Farner. In addition to her husband and parents, Joanne was preceded in death by her brother, Richard Bitner; and her daughter-in-law, Kathleen Bowman.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, February 24, 2022 at Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg, PA. Rev. Ruth Smith will officiate. Arrangements are entrusted to Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Chambersburg, PA.
