Obituary for Jeryl L. Martin

Jeryl L. Martin, 70, of Shippensburg, PA, went to be with the Lord Tuesday morning, May 9, 2023. Born August 7, 1952 in Chambersburg, he was a son of Thelma Witmer Martin of Chambersburg and the late David H. Martin. Jeryl graduated in 1970 from the Chambersburg Area Senior High School and went to work in home construction with Dave McCleary. In 1973 he went to work at David H. Martin Excavating and in 1988 he and his two brothers became owners of the company. Jeryl loved the Lord and served Him faithfully as a long-time member of the Chambersburg Mennonite Church and most recently King Street Church. Jeryl loved people and will be remembered for his fun-loving personality and as a great storyteller. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother. He enjoyed woodworking, hunting, riding motorcycles, camping, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Glenda K. Shank Martin, whom he married August 26, 1972; three children, Jennifer Lehman (husband Doug), Christina Lefever (husband Ben), and Denver Martin (wife Maria), all of Chambersburg; eight grandchildren, Shiloh, Elijah, and Maya Lehman, Reagan and Jameson Martin, Jayne, Addison, and Clara Lefever; a sister, Charlene Gingrich and husband Brian of Chambersburg; and two brothers, Edwin and wife Judi of Fayetteville and David Henry and wife Janet of Chambersburg.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 5:00 PM and 6:00 – 9:00 PM on Sunday, May 14, 2023 at King Street Church, 162 East King Street, Chambersburg, PA.

A service to celebrate Jeryl’s life will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, May 15, 2023 at Grand Point Church, 2230 Grand Point Road, Chambersburg, PA where Rev. Jody Bowser, Rev. Ronald Cook, and Rev. Doug Lehman will officiate. Interment will be private.
