Janet L. Jones, 90, of Chambersburg, PA passed away Wednesday, December 23, 2020 at Chambers Pointe Menno Haven. Born February 6, 1930 in Slatington, PA, she was a daughter of the late Evan E. Jones, Jr. and Lillian L. Jones. Janet was a 1947 graduate of the Slatington High School and a 1951 graduate of the Allentown School of Nursing. She served honorably as a Registered Nurse with the US Army from 1952 – 1954 and was discharged at the rank of First Lieutentant. She continued serving her country with the US Army Reserves and attained the rank of Colonel. Janet earned a Master’s degree from Seton Hall University in 1963. She was employed as a Registered Nurse at the VA Hospital in Orange, NJ. She was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ; Burt J. Asper Post 46 American Legion; the Marine Corps League; and the Quad State Women Veterans. She was also a member of Hume-McNeil-Byers AmVets Post 224, where she served as the first female Commander in 1989. Janet loved her cats and enjoyed spending time with her family.

She is survived by her sister, Marilyn Diehl and husband George of Chambersburg; two nieces, Carol Foltz and husband Ed and Holly Pefley, all of Chambersburg; her great-niece, Tara Foltz of St. Petersburg, FL; her great-nephew Jason Foltz (Nina) of Greenville, NC; two great-great nieces, Clara and Macy Foltz; and two great-great-nephews, Preston Piver and Drew Foltz.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at St. John’s United Church of Christ, Chambersburg, PA. Rev. Caroline Saxton will officiate. Interment with military honors by members of the Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW Honor Guard will follow at Parklawns Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 10-11:00 AM Wednesday at the church.
