Obituary for Jane R. Crosby (Murphy)

Mrs. Jane R. Crosby of Chambersburg PA passed away at home on January 7, 2021 at 93 years of age after a life filled with love, devotion and pride for her large family. She was cared for by her loving children. She was born on January 23, 1927 to the late Grace Gallagher Murphy and John Joseph Murphy in Phillipsburg, NJ. She was preceded in death by her husband John J. Crosby, her brothers, brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Joseph (Alice) Murphy, and Francis (Patricia) Murphy, Matthew (Dorothy) Crosby and her grandson Scott Brewster. She is survived by her five children, Eileen Glynn (Patrick) of Allenhurst, NJ, Maureen Brewster (Robert) of Westfield, NJ, Kevin Crosby (Mary Lynne) of Magnolia, TX, Thomas Crosby (Rachel Saidi) of Boonsboro, MD, and Kathleen Maier (Jonathan) of Chambersburg PA, fifteen grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and special friends.

Jane loved recounting stories to her family of her happy, adventuresome childhood in her hometown of Phillipsburg NJ. She attended St. Philip and St. James School with the boy who would one day become her husband of almost 67 years, John Crosby.

After high school she graduated from Churchmen’s Business College in Easton Pa. She subsequently worked as a secretary for Alpha Portland Cement before leaving to raise her family. She developed considerable sewing skill to make clothes and household items. She even made her daughter’s wedding dress, bridesmaids and flower girl gowns. After a move to Maryland from South River NJ she returned to the workforce in 1976 as the Administrative Assistant to the Commander of the US Army’s Concepts Analysis Agency in Bethesda Md. until her retirement in 1989. Jane and John then enjoyed many years traveling and camping throughout the US before moving to Chambersburg from their home in Silver Spring Md.

Throughout her life, she especially loved to visit with family. Zoom, Facetime and photo picture frames were favorites ways for her to continue to connect with her family in recent months. She even enjoyed a visit from her newest great grandson, Finn, shortly before her passing.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, January 11, 2021 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 320 Philadelphia Ave., Chambersburg, PA 17201. Rev. Richard Lyons will officiate. She will be interred with her husband at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, Chambersburg, PA.
