Obituary for Jacob S. Bucher Jr.

Jacob S. Bucher Jr. of Chambersburg, formerly of Hustontown and Skippack, Pennsylvania, passed away on the morning of May 28, 2022, at Chambersburg Hospital. He was the son of the late Jacob Bucher and Grace Shishler Bucher, of Harleysville, Pennsylvania.

After graduating from Souderton High School after a notable football career and a short career in his father’s chicken farm, Jake enrolled in the U.S. Navy. He was a sailor on the USS Forrestal, and was honorably discharged in 1960. While employed by Lehigh Valley Dairy and living in Allentown, he met Lora Brehm who lived in the apartment downstairs from him. They married in 1964 in Allentown, then lived in Kulpsville, Skippack, Hustontown, and Chambersburg while raising their children.

Jake is predeceased by his brother Steven (Barbara) and survived by wife Lora Gail Brehm Bucher; sister Joanne (Nick Sprincz) of Gunnison, Colorado; brother Thomas (Donna), Pennsburg; son Barry (Dana) of Suches, Georgia; daughters Christine (David) of Center Valley, Pennsylvania; and Jennifer (Chuck) Weaver of Roswell, New Mexico; as well as grandchildren, Cagney Meads, Micah Grizzle, August James Joachim, Abigail René Weaver, Maddox Jacob Joachim, and Jane Carolyn Weaver, and five great-grandchildren, as well as various nieces and nephews.

He will be remembered differently by different people, but most will remember his forthright speaking style; his love of cycling, calisthenics, and ring bologna: his strength and ingenuity; his off-kilter sense of humor; as well as his love and delight in his grandchildren.

A small service will be held for family memories. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your favorite charity. Arrangements are entrusted to Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Chambersburg, PA.
