Obituary for George R. Wagaman Sr.
George R. Wagaman, Sr., 101, of Chambersburg, passed away on May 17, 2023 at Magnolias of Chambersburg. Born January 24, 1922 in Waynesboro, he was the son of the late Bruce and Emma Jane Patterson Wagaman. His beloved wife, Ruth McNew Wagaman, preceded him in death on March 29, 2003.
A US Army veteran, George served honorably during World War II in Okinawa and Japan. He worked with his brothers Bruce and Earl as a carpenter for most of his life and later at Piney Mountain Nursing Home. George was a member of the former Pond Bank Mennonite Church in Chambersburg. He enjoyed hunting mushrooms, playing the guitar and banjo, and singing. He also enjoyed spending time with his friends and family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He is survived by four children, Donna Yeager (Robert) of Fannettsburg, George R. Wagaman, Jr. (Rebecca) of Indialantic, FL, Timothy Wagaman (Ceil) of Valdosta, GA, and Judith Garner (Ronald) of Chambersburg; ten grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; and his son-in-law, Rodney Martin of Chambersburg. Aside from his wife and parents, George was preceded in death by two daughters, Mary Golden and Pamela Martin; and three siblings, Bruce Wagaman, Jr., Earl Wagaman, and Joyce Suders.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, May 23, 2023 in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA 17202. Rev. Jeremy Lehman and Rev. Mark Durniak will officiate. Music will be provided by Rev. Marlin A. “Butch” Neil. Interment will follow the service in Parklawns Memorial Gardens. Military honors will be provided by the VFW Post 1599 Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 9:00 – 10:00 AM on Tuesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Residential Hospice, 100 Sterling Pkwy #110, Mechanicsburg, PA 17050 or to Magnolias of Chambersburg, 745 Norland Avenue, Chambersburg, PA 17201.
