Obituary for Frances L. Wadel (Unger)

Frances L. Wadel, 84, of Chambersburg, passed away on Thursday, March 23, 2023 at Providence Place. Born November 14, 1938 in Orrstown, she was a daughter of the late Alvin D. and Vada Finkenbinder Unger. Her beloved husband R. Lee Wadel, preceded her in death on December 19, 2022.

Frances was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Church where she served as Financial Secretary, Sunday School Teacher, and board member and on various other committees. She was a 1959 graduate of Shippensburg Area High School. She was employed at Chambersburg Hospital for 32 years until her retirement in 2002. She enjoyed flower arranging, gardening, reading and preparing fruits and vegetables for family in use.

She is survived by two daughters, Kim Mann (David) of Lebanon, PA and Carla Cook (Jeffrey) of Chambersburg; four grandchildren, Lauren Silva of Waldorf, MD, Adam Cook of Westmont, NJ, Heather Cook of Coatesville, PA, and Jordan Mann of Palmyra; two great-grandchildren, Xander Peters and Wyatt Mann; one sister, Shirley St. Clair of Chambersburg; and a sister-in-law, Patty Unger of Chambersburg. In addition to her parents and husband, Frances we preceded in death by a brother, Alvin Unger.

A service to celebrate Frances’ life will be held at 3:00 PM on Friday, March 31, 2023 at Mt. Pleasant United Brethren Church, 2509 Black Gap Road, Chambersburg, PA. Rev. Gary Culler and Chaplain Rick Ritenour will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service and immediately following the service on Friday at the church. A private graveside service for the family will be held prior to the service at the church.
