Obituary for Fay Ellen Anderson (Byers)

Fay Ellen Anderson of Chambersburg passed away on Friday, October 14, 2022, at SpiriTrust Lutheran – The Village at Luther Ridge. Born in Chambersburg, she was the daughter of the late Bruce and Blanche Hull Byers.

Fay was employed for a number of years at Town and Country and later as a teller at Dauphin Deposit until her retirement. Fay was a member of Grand Point Church (formerly Chambersburg First Church of God). She was active in her church and Sunday school. A very kind and welcoming person, she served as the head of the greeters at her church for many years. She was known for sending cards with kind words of encouragement to friends and family who were in need or were suffering from illness. Family was very important to Fay. After her mother’s passing, Fay continued the tradition of the Byers’ family Christmas Day Dinner.

She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Ray Anderson, whom she married on December 31, 1972; one brother, William Byers and wife Bonnie of Chambersburg; and numerous nieces and nephews. Aside from her parents, Fay is preceded in death by five brothers: Hull (wife Helen – surviving), Richard (wife Barbara – surviving), Jay (wife Nancy), Robert (wife Marianne), and Lynn Byers (wife Donna – surviving).

Fay had a special relationship with her niece, Jill, and Jill’s children whom Fay referred to as Princess Haley and Prince Chase. Fay’s family was very supportive of her and Ray during Fay’s recent illness. Nieces Cindy, Cathy and Judy were very helpful in providing care and comfort to her. Jill’s medical knowledge was instrumental in ensuring that her aunt received the best care possible. Chase’s frequent visits to his great aunt brought her much joy.
