Obituary for Ethel Johnson Butler

Ethel Butler Jordan, 85, of Chambersburg, passed away on Monday, April 1, 2019 at the Chambersburg Hospital. She was born August 12, 1933 in Chester, PA to the late Willie and Alverna Johnson. She is preceded in death by her loving husband Freddie Devior Jordan; children Renee, Carlos, Loretta, Stewart ; sisters Mildred, Josephine, Francis, and brother Leroy.

Ethel graduated from Chester High School and she relocated to New York City in 1952. Ethel had a strong passion for children which lead her to begin her career with NYC Board of Education. After retiring from the Board of Education she displayed her true entrepreneurial spirit and started many small business endeavors including her famous Icey's.

She also had a passion for cooking and showed her love through food. Ethel was a mother figure to many people in Far Rockaway and her door was always open. She always lent a listening ear and kept many secrets. Those who knew Ethel knew she was a force to be reckoned with.

Ethel accepted Jesus Christ as her lord and savior in 1984 under Bishop Warren Shivers at the Wings of Faith Outreach Holliness Church. In 2000 Ethel founded Our Father House Church along with her loving husband, Freddie Jordan and Son In Law, Pastor Robert.

She is survived by seven children Ceaser Butler (Ann) of Far Rockaway, NY, Nadine Butler of Chambersburg, PA, Terry Shivers (Pastor Robert) of Chambersburg, PA, Divine Butler (Shannon) of Shelby, NC, Tammy Butler of Far Rockaway, NY, Monique Butler of Chambersburg, PA and Sparkle Breland (Chad) of Chambersburg, PA. She also leaves her Son-In-Law Malik Gardner of Far Rockaway, twenty-eight Grandchildren, fifty-two Great Grandchildren, seven Great great grandchildren, Sister-In-Law Rebecca Hale of Mobile, A.L. and a host of Nieces, Nephews, Cousins, Godchildren and Friends. She leaves behind 3 Special Friends Lee Nora Parker, Doris Scott, and Nellie.

A funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM on Tuesday, April 9, 2019 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA 17202. Pastor Robert Shivers will officiate. Interment will be private.
