Obituary for Ellen M. Long (Diehl)

Ellen M. (Diehl) Long, 89, of Chambersburg, PA passed away Saturday, July 16, 2022 in her home surrounded by her family. Born July 17, 1932 in Chambersburg she was the daughter of the late Leslie and Carrie (Alleman) Diehl.

She was a graduate of Chambersburg High School with the Class of 1950. Ellen was employed by the Chambersburg Credit Bureau as a financial researcher until her retirement.

Ellen was an active member of the Edenville United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school and was in charge of the Easter Candy Fundraiser for many years. She was an avid traveler and baked and decorated thousands of cakes for special occasions throughout her life time. Ellen enjoyed volunteering and was active in helping at the Edenville Community Center.

She is survived by five children, Donna Myers of Shippensburg, PA, Rodney Long of Carlisle, PA, Larry Long of Chambersburg, PA, Tina Minder and her husband Steven of Willow Hill, PA and Lori Long of Fayetteville, PA; nine grandchildren, Melissa, Eric, Cody, Ryan, Brandon, Shannon, Nikki, Amanda and Sean; ten great-grandchildren; four sisters, Mary Miller of Carlisle, Dorothy Hawbaker of Chambersburg, Linda Bingaman of Greencastle, Phyllis Rotz of Chambersburg and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Ralph Long and a sister Kay James who both passed away in 1993; and a great-grandson, Tyler Bigler.

Services will be held 10:00 AM, Saturday, July 23, 2022 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA 17202. Burial will follow in Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service Saturday morning in the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Edenville Community Center and mailed to Corey Shetler, c/o Edenville Community Center, 4233 Shatzer Street, Chambersburg, PA 17202.
