Obituary

Obituary for Elberta "Bertie" Roberts

Elberta (nee, Richter) Roberts of Fayetteville passed to the other side on Monday, March 8, 2021. Bertie was born on August 2, 1938, in Pittsburgh to George Richter and Ella Lache. The family moved to Silver Spring, Maryland when Bertie was 2 years old where she resided until marrying. During her married life she lived in Rockville, Germantown, and Monrovia, MD and Kailua, HI prior to moving to Pennsylvania in 1997.

Bertie worked briefly for the Montgomery County, MD public school system while raising her four children. She enjoyed sewing and completing many beautiful quilts and counted cross stitch projects. She also loved the collection of dolls and bears she accumulated over the years, but her passion was the many pets she had over the years.

Bertie is survived by her loving husband of 58 years Larry “Mike” Roberts, two of her sisters, Roberta Gummel of Castine ME and Meyrl McWilliams of Buckeystown, MD, her two daughters, Sherry Roberts-Kennedy of Uxbridge, MA and Laura Maggiotto of Center Barnstead, NH, eight grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased in death by her parents, her two sons, Jeffrey and Thomas, and 2 of her sisters, Jean Brooks and Florence Ober.

The family wishes to thank the caring professionals of SpirTrust Lutheran Home Care and Hospice who made Bertie’s last days bearable.

Burial at the Evergreen Cemetery in Gettysburg, PA will be private. A memorial service will be held in Bertie’s honor at a date to be determined. Memorial contributions can be made in her name to the Cumberland Valley Animal Shelter or to Children International. Professional services are entrusted to Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Inc., Chambersburg, PA.

Bertie was one of our mom’s dearest friends. As an extraordinarily talented quilter and a dedicated animal lover, Bertie & our mom always had lots to talk about. She will be missed.
Our deepest sympathies to your family. Nancy Harding, Nancy & Mark Benny and Brian Burke
