Obituary for Edwin R. Beard Jr.
Edwin R. Beard, Jr., 73, of Greencastle, PA, passed away on Saturday, March 12, 2022 in his home. Born July 18, 1948 in Hagerstown, MD, he was the son of the late Edwin R. Beard, Sr. and Mary A. Dunham Beard.
A graduate of St. Joseph Academy of St. Augustine, FL, Ed furthered his education at the University of Florida, where he earned his BA in technical theatre. He was employed in the Greencastle Antrim School District as a paraprofessional for many years, where he developed many lifelong friendships with staff and students.
He served on the Board of Directors of the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen and on the Board of Advisors of Tayamentasachta Environmental Center. He was a member of the 42 West Arts Co-Op in Waynesboro and was a member of the Cumberland Valley Chapter of the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen, and a board member of the State Guild. A talented woodworker, he enjoyed demonstrating his craft at various craft fairs and historical institutes in the area, including the Conococheague Institute in Mercersburg and the Renfrew Museum and Park in Waynesboro. In addition to his passion for woodworking, he enjoyed traveling to Florida and the southwest; as well as playing various string instruments and harmonicas.
Ed is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years, Patricia J. (Bauer) Beard, whom he married on June 17, 1972; his daughter, Victoria Beard and her husband Brandon Burger; and two brothers, Michael E. and Robert P. Beard.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, March 31, 2022 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. The family requests the omission of flowers and instead, take your family out for dinner and share some memories of Ed, or to donate to the charity of one’s choice, if desired.
