Obituary for Dortha E. Neil (Wise)
Dortha E. (Wise) Neil, 77, of Chambersburg, PA went to be with her loving husband at the feet of Jesus on Monday, August 8, 2022 in her home. Born June 1, 1945 in Chambersburg, PA she was the daughter of the late George and Catherine (Johnson) Wise.
She was a graduate of Lancaster Mennonite High School with the Class of 1963. Dortha then went on to get her degree as a registered nurse from Lancaster General Hospital in 1966 and eventually her bachelors of science in nursing from the University of Maryland in 1994. Dortha put her degrees to work as a registered nurse and later a nursing supervisor at the Chambersburg Hospital for 36 years.
Dortha was a longtime member of Marion Mennonite Church and in her later years, Shady Pine Mennonite Church. Prior to her stroke in 2012, she volunteered at the MennoHaven Thrift Shop and was a board member at Brooklane. She enjoyed traveling and going antiquing with her husband.
She is survived by daughter, Julia R. Davids and her husband Jeff of Chambersburg; son, Steven J. Neil and his wife Melody of Martinsburg, WV, two granddaughters, Brianna Ewan and Makenzie Burgess; a great-grandson, Liam Ewan; dear friends and neighbors, John Gipe and Pat Wagaman; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, W. Eugene Neil who passed away August 14, 2006 and four siblings, Agnes Frey, Elizabeth Rheam, Glenn Wise and Arthur Wise.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday August 12, 2022 in the Marion Mennonite Church, 4365 Molly Pitcher Highway, Chambersburg, PA with Pastor Marlin “Butch” Neil officiating. Interment will follow in the adjoining church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service Friday afternoon in the church.
