Obituary for Dorothy "Jean" McNew (Ulrich)
Dorothy “Jean” McNew, 97, of Fayetteville, passed away on Saturday, October 1, 2022 at the Chambersburg Hospital. Born August 17, 1925 in Chambersburg, she was a daughter of the late Irvin and Nettie West Ulrich.
Jean was employed as a dietary aide at South Mountain Restoration Center until her retirement. She was a member of the Fayetteville Church of God. Jean enjoyed gardening, doing yardwork, puzzles and most of all, spending time with her family.
She is survived by her son, William “Bill” McNew, Jr. and wife Kathi of Fayetteville, two grandchildren, Kristi Mattzela and husband Jim of Port Matilda, and Jamie Empert and husband Joe of GA; three great grandchildren, Heather, Alex and Owen Mattzela of Port Matilda; two sisters, Delores McNew and Darlene Varner, both of Chambersburg. In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her husband William McNew, Sr.; her son John McNew; and six siblings, David Ulrich, Harold Ulrich, Shirley Baughman, Helen Heiter, Charles Ulrich and Goldie Stouffer.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, October 7, 2022 in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Rev. Staci Geesaman will officiate. Interment will follow the service in Parklawns Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Friday at the funeral home. In lieu of flower, memorial contributions may be made to the Fayetteville Church of God, 5276 Trehers Rd, Fayetteville, PA 17222.
