Obituary for Diane S. Bonsell

Diane S. Bonsell, 60, of Carlisle, PA passed away Wednesday, June 29, 2022 in her home after a long battle with breast cancer. Born February 17, 1962 in Chambersburg, PA she was the daughter of Charles L. Bonsell of Chambersburg and the late Dorothy (Miller) Bonsell.

She was a graduate of the Chambersburg Area Senior High School with the Class of 1981. Diane spent her career in the restaurant industry, working in many different capacities. She was the owner and operator of Rita’s Italian Ice in Carlisle and Elizabethtown and most recently the co-owner of Hogestown Grill and Deli, Mechanisburg, PA. Diane loved cooking for people, going camping, spending time at the beach, making and selling crafts, and during her youthful years enjoyed playing softball in various leagues. Diane enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and made it a point to be present in the moments shared with them.

She played a vital role in fundraising for different cancer organizations such as American Cancer Society with her many years of participation in Relay for Life, Breast Cancer Awareness-Cumberland Valley, Hagerstown, and the Pink Hands of Hope, Mechanicsburg. Diane was responsible for setting up the monthly giving program for Pink Hands of Hope. Her giving to all people had no limits and she often went out of her way to help others even during her most difficult times.

In addition to her father she is survived by her sister, Debbie Kilgore and her husband Craig of Hagerstown, MD; life partner and caregiver, Val Brosend of Carlisle, PA; her fur-baby Oaklie; and a number of aunts, uncles and cousins. In addition to her mother she is preceded in death by her maternal and paternal grandparents and a cousin, Dawn Davis.

A memorial service will be held, 2:00 PM, Saturday, July 9, 2022 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA 17202 with Pastor Jerry Barrick officiating. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service Saturday afternoon in the funeral home. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.
