Obituary for Cynthia L. (Thomas) Jefferson

Cynthia L. (Thomas) Jefferson, 51, of Mercersburg, PA passed away unexpectedly Sunday morning, May 9, 2021 in the emergency room of Chambersburg Hospital. Born March 30, 1970 in Chambersburg, she was a daughter of Melvin and Linda Robinson Thomas of Chambersburg. She was a 1988 graduate of the James Buchanan High School and went on to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from Shepherd University. A Registered Nurse, she had worked at both Chambersburg and Waynesboro Hospitals early in her career and was currently employed at the Parkway Surgery Center in Hagerstown, MD where she had worked since July of 2006. She treasured time spent with her family and friends. Cynthia loved shopping; spending time reading on the beach; enjoyed most any type of fitness activity; a glass of good wine; and spending time on the boat. She loved to travel and especially enjoyed trips to Barbados and Mexico. She had a special place in her heart for Old English Sheep dogs and liked to spend time walking Benson. She was a member of AORN.

She is survived by her husband, Edwin R. Jefferson, IV, whom she married September 27, 2008; her daughters, Lily M. Etter and Reece A. Jefferson; her sister, Kristal A. Hollenshead and husband Daniel of Ft. Loudon and their children Lindsey M. and Landon D. Hollenshead as well as her in-laws Suzanne and Gerhard Glocker and Rusty Jefferson.

A service to celebrate Cynthia’s life will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, May 17, 2021 at Antrim Brethren In Christ Church, 24 Kauffman Road East, Chambersburg, PA. Rev. D. Neil Suders and Pastor Casey Horst will officiate. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the church’s Fellowship Hall.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Cynthia Jefferson Nursing Scholarship Fund, at https://gofund.me/5c570f4a , to be awarded to a high school senior at James Buchanan High School continuing their education to earn a degree in nursing.
