Obituary for Carrie Diana Huggins Zimmerman
Carrie Diana Huggins Zimmerman, 51, of Fayetteville, PA peacefully transitioned to her eternal life on August 26, 2022, in her home surrounded by her loving family. Born January 25, 1971, in Silver Spring, MD she was the daughter of Thomas A. Huggins and Diana B. Hubbard.
She was a graduate of Sherwood High School in Sandy Spring, MD, Class of 1989 and attended Penn State University and North Carolina State University. After college, Carrie worked as a paralegal in commercial banking and employment law. She was an amazing mother who took great joy and pride in raising her children.
She was an adventurist and enjoyed gymnastics, skiing, skydiving, traveling and being with her friends/family who were one of the same. She was an avid fan of the Washington Nationals and a Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy guru. She was an advocate for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and guided many through initial diagnoses of MS, a disease she fearlessly fought her entire adult life.
Carrie is an inspiration to everyone that knew her and handled every new challenge with grace and a positive outlook. She loved to laugh and even more, to make others laugh. She was able to turn complete strangers into instant friends wherever she went. Carrie’s quick wit, strength, and ability to turn the toughest situations into humor will be missed by her family and friends.
In addition to her parents she is survived by her husband and lifelong partner of 24 years, David P. Zimmerman, with whom they were blessed with two children, Brayden and Addison; six siblings, Rob Huggins (Laurie), Aimee Warner (Joe) Paige Huggins (Justin Gruber), Adam Huggins, Cassandra Hoffman and Thomas Huggins; her in-laws, Pete and Joy Zimmerman; sister-in-law, Barb Law (David); and a number of nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Helen H. Huggins and Francis Marian Huggins; maternal grandmother, Marge “Anna” Strickler; Skip Adkins who was a second father to her; and Dave’s grandparents that she loved so dearly, Robert “Pop” and Bette Frey.
A visitation will be held at the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Rd. Chambersburg from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Thursday, September 1, 2022. A memorial service will be held at 12:00 PM, Friday, September 2, 2022, in the Presbyterian Church of Falling Spring, 221 N. Main St. Chambersburg, with the Rev. Dr. Andrew Hart officiating. Interment will be private.
