Obituary for Carl F. Jaymes

Carl F. Jaymes, 74, of Shade Gap, passed away on Monday, November 18, 2019. Born July 23, 1945 in Shade Gap, he was the son of the late Melvin M. and Helen M. Crouse Jaymes.

Carl was a 1963 graduate of Southern Huntingdon County High School. A US Army Veteran, he served honorably and proudly 1963 – 66. He was a Sgt E-5. He completed a 2 year tour in Alaska and was in the Good Friday earthquake of 1964. Carl was in the 56 Engineering and Construction Company at Fort Ritchie as an equipment operator/truck driver. He was a dairy farmer most of his life until his retirement. He enjoyed his career in agriculture and being a dairy farmer at Tannery Road Farm.

Carl hiked the entire Appalachian Trail 2,100 miles in 2007. He hiked the Tuscarora trail of 280 miles and the Standing Stone Trail of 84 miles a couple times and was a lifetime member of the Standing Stone Trail Club. He was also a volunteer section maintainer. His playground was the Thousand Steps.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Frances Jaymes; son, Casey Jaymes of Leesburg, VA; his grandson, Zeke ; five siblings, Erma Crouse of Needmore, Nora Beyers of Harrisburg, and Linda Muller of Bethesda, MD, Alan Jaymes of Mercersburg and Joyce Dyer of New Holland.

Carl belonged to a number of organizations in his lifetime. He was president of the Shade Gap Area Fire Company for 4 years, Shade Gap Lions Club, Conservation District and the Huntingdon County Planning Commission. He was a proud member of Cromwell Lodge F&AM #572. Carl was a member of the Shade Gap Presbyterian Church as well as a session member and clerk of session. He was a volunteer at Camp Krislund church camp In Madisonburg, PA.

Carl enjoyed each day of his earthly life before his injury.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, November 22, 2019 at Shade Gap Presbyterian Church, 11700 Town Hill Street, Shade Gap, PA 17255. Pastor Darwin Goshorn will officiate. Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Shade Valley. Friends will be received from 9:00 – 11:00 AM prior to the service. The family asks for the omission of flowers.
