Obituary for Carl J. "Jake" Creswell

Carl J. “Jake” Creswell, 80, of Chambersburg, passed away on Tuesday, November 22, 2022 at Menno Haven Rehabilitation Center. Born February 18, 1942 in Todd, PA, he was a son of the late A. Fred Creswell and Lavada Saylor Creswell.

Jake was 1960 graduate of Robertsdale High School. He was employed as a Logistics Specialist at Letterkenny Army Depot with DESCOM, and then at Rock Island Arsenal in Rock Island, IL until his retirement in 2003 after 27 years of service. He was awarded the Army Superior Civilian Service Award for his contributions to the Army. He was an active member of Greenvillage Church of God where he served as a trustee, Sunday school treasurer and enjoyed working with the youth in the Reach Program and Bible Adventure. Jake was a member of Cromwell Lodge #572 F&AM. He also served as an Assistant Scout Master with Boy Scout Troop 138. He went to Philmont Scout Ranch with his son Nick and guided many scouts on their path to Eagle Scout. He enjoyed amateur radio and had his amateur radio license. Jake also enjoyed hiking the Appalachian Trail, golfing and camping at their family camp in Three Springs, PA and the KOA in St. Petersburg, FL in the winter months.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Linda J. (Cornelius) Creswell, whom he married on June 25, 1961; two sons, Gregory Creswell and wife Melissa of Ocean Pines, MD, and Nicholas Creswell and wife Kathleen of California, MD; five grandchildren, Ross Covert (Jade), Carle Novakowski (Matt), Gabrielle Creswell, Noah Creswell, and Keegan Creswell; two great grandchildren, Case and Crew Covert; two step-grandchildren, Cecilia and Gina Spadea; and two siblings, Roy Creswell (Sandra) and Dorothy Querry. Aside from his parents, Carl was preceded in death by his daughter, Penne Covert on December 6, 2021; and five siblings, Jane Ford, Sarah Mae Creswell, and Glen, Robert and David Creswell.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 28, 2022 at Greenvillage Church of God, 5164 Philadelphia Avenue, Chambersburg, PA. Rev. Matthew Tosten will officiate. Private interment will be in Beavertown Cemetery in Todd, PA. The family will receive friends from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. on Monday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation at parkinson.org. Arrangements are entrusted to Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Chambersburg, PA.
